Aus armseligen Verhältnissen arbeitet sich Egermann zu einem anerkannten Friedrich Egermann (1777-1864) got on an important glass painter and technologist. He was allowed to join the guild of glass cutters, gilders and painters. He visited important Saxonian china producers in Gera and above all the castle Albrechtsburg in Meissen. Here, the inquisitive young Egermann managed to find out the preparation of inks, the manufacture of brushes and fine china painting methods including the decoration firing despite of their maximal concealment. After coming back home he gradually began to assert himself as a glass painter and technologist. In 1820 he was already so asserted that he got the freedom of the town Haida and built a larger glass decorating shop. An accidental result of the Egermann´s experiments may be the semiprecious glasses. He has got with them a new sort of products with impressively and significantly coloured inhomogenities and with the surface of various colours. In 1824 he founded the right way of production of his most important invention - the red staining. He was honoured and in 1833 awarded with the silver medal, in 1848 with the gold medal of "The Union for the Industry Encouragement in Bohemia". (www.egermann.cz)

Innen gelblichrot. H. 10,4 cm Provenienz: Sammlung Biemann, Zürich. Friedrich Egermann (1777-1864) entstammt der deutschböhmischen Glasmachersippe Kittel und Friedrich. Aus armseligen Verhältnissen arbeitet sich Egermann zu einem anerkannten Glasmaler, Technologen und gewandten Glasgeschäftsmann empor. Das Glasmacher- und Glasmalerhandwerk lernt er bei seinem Onkel, dem Glashüttenmeister Anton Kittel in Falkenau und wird in die Zunft der Kreibitzer ''Glasschneider, Vergolder und Glasmaler'' aufgenommen. Seine Wanderjahre führen ihn in die bedeutenden sächsische Porzellanmanufakturen in Gera und auf die Albrechtsburg in Meißen. Egermann befasst sich anfangs mit fein gemalten Dekoren auf Milch- und Alabasterglas. Seit 1816 experimentiert er am Glasfärben in dünnen Schichten durch Beizen (gelbe Silberbeize). Um 1820 ist Egermann schon so erfolgreich, dass er in Haida das Bürgerrecht erlangt und eine umfangreiche Glasraffinerie errichten kann. Ein scheinbar zufälliges Ergebnis von Egermanns Versuchen sind Steingläser, die den Halbedelsteinen (Marmor, Jaspis, Achat u.a) ähnlich sind. Egermanns Neuerung besteht darin, dass er die Marmorglasschmelzprodukte dekorativ schleifen und auf die geschliffenen Flächen und Medaillons die Gelb- und Rotbeize einbrennen lässt.
