English Early 15th Century Carved and Painted Walnut Heraldic Lion Sejant Sculpture

21" x 11" x 8-3/4" Carved out of one solid piece of walnut, depicting heraldic lion sejant (though presented without a tail), ca. early 15th century (examined by the British Museum in late 1950's). Accompanied with framed "Six Towns Magazine" full two pages article, dedicated Collection of Brand Hall Norton-in-Hales, Home of Col. Sir George and Lady Wade; also offered a black-and-white photograph with pencil hand writing on the back: "This is my Lion. Early 15th century with its original coat of paint (says the British museum). Granddaughters laugh when they see it because they think it is so much like me!..."
Provenance: private collection of Colonel Sir George Albert Wade (British, 1891-1986), acquired from London antique shop; brought to the USA in 1964, by descent in the family to current owner.
