Abel Pann (1883-1963) was born in Latvia in 1883.
He studied at the Odessa School of Art and in 1903 traveled to Paris to study at the Julian Academy of Art. In 1913 he immigrated to Israel and became a teacher at Bezalel School of Art. He was the first to open a lithograph workshop in 1921, where he created his own lithographs. His work was mostly dedicated to Biblical stories. In the Biblical figures Pann saw the oriental and eastern people whom he met later in Israel in those days. Pann is known and admired for his paintings influenced by the School of Paris style. He had many exhibitions world wide, and his work is included in prominent museums collections such as the Pompidou, Hag Museum in Holland, the Museum of Chicago, Israel Museum in Jerusalem, and others. Pann had a retrospective exhibition at the Israel Museum in Jerusalem early this year.
