Measuring appx 15" x 14", expandable leather briefcase with intricately engraved buckle set closer, gold initials, and silver overlaid lock with key. Superb, usable condition, c 1980s Twins Dave and Dan Murray (Dave b 1951, Dan 1951-1994) were born in Orange County where their father worked as a watch maker and engraver. They spent the early 1960s watching and learning from saddle maker Bill Rogers in San Diego before moving to Bothell, Washington for a brief period. In 1967 the family moved to Thousand Oaks in Southern California with Dan relocating to Carson City, Nevada, to learn saddle making and Dave settling in Santa Monica where he trained horses while tooling leather and silversmithing. By 1970 Dave was living and working with silversmith Gary Gist making silver buckles, Indian jewelry and doing some piecework for the Bohlin shop in Hollywood. By 1981 Dave was foreman at the Gary Gist Silverworks near Grass Valley, Calif developing their own distinctive, intricate style of bits, spurs and custom belts and buckles. By the mid 1980s the brothers had reunited along with saddle maker Bill Rogers in Silver City, Nevada. Dave moved to Hawaii but has reportedly returned to central California. Dan passed away in 1994
