Signed upper left, unframed, overall dimension, 16 x 1 x 12.ARTURO LAZARO (1913-1982)Born in Mexico City, Lazaro showed an early interest in art and began painting at the age of twelve, mostly painting human figures. His art career was put on hold at the age of eighteen after the passing of his father being the oldest male Lazaro worked in a foundry and as a musician to support his mother and young siblings. He never stopped focusing on his art career and painted in the evenings selling his works locally. Lazaro always considered himself a student he studied and read constantly he was especially intrigued by the human figure, clay sculpture, ancient post-classic and Mayan cultures and cubism.In the late 40Â’s Lazaro arrived in Paris he took open courses and studied the works of Fernand Leger and Wilfredo Lam for a brief period during this time his work shifted towards abstraction. The International success of Henry Moore in the 50Â’s influenced Lazaro to return to his early interest of the human body. Progressively he departed from abstraction his depictions became more visceral and sculptural with pre-Columbian representations. Lazaro lived in Paris for 16 years struggling as an artists he returned to Mexico. Lazaro exhibited his work in Mexico, New Mexico and California
