LEAR, Edward. Journals of a Landscape Painter in Albaina.Journal of a Landscape Painter in Albania. London: Bentley, 1851. Large 8vo (255 x 150 mm). 20 tinted plates, map. Publishers blue cloth stamped in blind, spine in gilt. Condition: slight browning and foxing; some minor restoration to spine, covers slightly worn, cornerwear. Provenance: contemporary gift inscription to verso of ffee. [With:] Journal of a Landscape Painter in Southern Calabria. London: Bentley, 1852. Large 8vo (255 x 150 mm). 20 tinted plates, 2 maps. Publishers blue cloth stamped in blind, spine in gilt. Condition: foxing to preliminaries, marginal browning to plates, hinges starting; shelfwear, short split to head of spine. Provenance: contemporary gift inscription to rear pastedown. FIRST EDITIONS. The first volume is based on two journeys Lear made through Northern and Western Greece, Albania, and Macedonia in 1848 and 1849 and was the second of his travel books to have text as well as illustrations.
