Description
646. Eddie Cantor puppet from Ziegfeld Follies. (MGM, 1946) The most important Bunin surviving puppet is this fantastic and famous Eddie Cantor puppet, in black face, from the Technicolor all-star musical. Lou built a whole puppet world based on Flo Ziegfeld's first theater in New York in 1907. With Lady Astor arriving by carriage, to the gentlemen and ladies in tuxes and gowns milling about the lobby, to the stage showcasing four of Ziegfeld's greatest stars, one of whom was Cantor dancing and singing "If You Knew Susie". Constructed of Bunin's own rubberized foam compound for the flexible skin over a special wrapped wire armature. The head is hand-painted, dressed with gray wool pants, double-breasted dark blue coat, red ribbon tie and bowler hat. An impressively detailed puppet. Measures 10 ½ in. tall. Puppet exhibits only slight wear; otherwise, remarkable condition for its age.
