625. Cheshire Cat puppet from Alice in Wonderland. (Lou Bunin Productions, 1949) One of the most identifiable characters of the Alice in Wonderland world, the Cheshire Cat with its characteristic grin is first seen in the Duchess' kitchen then outside on the limb of a tree. Constructed of Bunin's own rubberized foam compound for the flexible skins over a special wrapped wire armature. The skin is sculpted with a striped texture, hand-painted and impressively detailed with bristles for whiskers and tiny eyelashes. Measures 10½ in. long x 4 in. tall. Exhibits minor cracking on the head and front paws; otherwise, remarkable condition for its age.
