Item Details
Description
Produced in April of 1985 in the Kani, Japan factory of Kazou Yairi, this guitar bears the following message on the face; "To Roy Loy/ your Friend/ Johnny Cash/ 2 - 21 - 88". Hardwood construction, with contrasting hardwood and mother of pearl inlay around the sound hole, blonde accent stripe running down the back of the body, mother of pearl angled stripe across the fretboard, and contrasting hardwood and pearl inlay into the headstock with Alvarez-Yairi monogram on the headstock and back of the machine heads. The power switch and dual volume and equalizer controls are mounted to the right of the neck heel, with the dual outputs on the lower side. Included with the guitar is a case, strap, a signed photograph of Johnny Cash, and a set of documentation including a certificate of authenticity signed by W.S. Holland, which identifies this guitar by model and serial number as having been owned and played by Mr. Cash, and presented by him to longtime friend Mr. Roy Loy. Holland, member of the Tennessee 3 and Johnny Cash's drummer from 1960 until Cash's retirement in 1997, counted among his musical credits the original recording of Carl Perkins' "Blue Suede Shoes", played drums on the "Million Dollar Quartet" sessions, and played at Folsom and San Quentin prisons alongside Cash. No description of Johnny Cash will be provided here, as none is needed.

Condition
Fine. Some wood loss has occurred to the lower right side of the sound hole in three patches, but has not disturbed the inlay. Scattered light dings are present on the body. The electronics are untested, and the outputs are present but need to be installed into the body side. Needs tuned. A one of a kind piece of American music history.
