Description
Impressive Mount Washington Colonial Ware vase with handles formed as coiled dolphins and enhanced with Roman gold. The vase is hand decorated with a Venetian water canal having buildings in the distance and sailing vessels in the harbor. The main design is of a young maiden approaching the end of a pier, waiting there is a gondola, the navigator gestures for the young lady to come aboard, so he may taxi her to her destination. Very romantic, eh? The obverse has a group of tethering poles ornamented with flowers and statuary, the tallest supporting a lantern. A graceful arrangement of coiled leaf fronds, applied in raised gold, frames this beautiful and exotic scene. The base bears the hand mark of the royal crown inside a laurel wreath and the number 1015 in red enamel. Height is 15 inches. The vase is in excellent condition retaining almost all of the fired on gold. To behold this vase is to take a trip to Venice and never leave your chair! A like vase is featured in "Mount Washington Art Glass" authored by Betty Sisk, page 76. Handsome vessel.
