Item Details
Description
Roy Lichtenstein (1923-1997, American) - "SURREALISTIC PAINTINGS (Cheese Head)" - Ace Gallery poster (1978.) This color lithographic print was produced in an unknown edition size for a show held at Ace Gallery in Los Angeles. It measures approximately 60" x 44" and has a large hand signature in marker in the lower right. Framed. The image was also used for Connecticut politician and Democrat, Anthony John "Toby" Moffett's 1982 campaign against Republican Connecticut U.S. Senator Lowell Weicker. It was known as: "Roy Lichtenstein - Jobs Not Cheese! Moffett for Senator." 20th Century Master, Roy Fox Lichtenstein was an American pop artist. During the 1960s, along with Andy Warhol, Jasper Johns, and James Rosenquist among others, he became a leading figure in the new art movement. His work defined the premise of pop art through parody. Inspired by the comic strip, Lichtenstein produced precise compositions that documented while they parodied, often in a tongue-in-cheek manner. His work was influenced by popular advertising and the comic book style. He described pop art as "not 'American' painting but actually industrial painting."
