Description
Seldom seen Mount Washington 'Chick Head" salt and pepper shakers seated within a quadruple plate Rogers Smith holder. One shaker has white enamel berries on a leafy vine placed over a pink ground. The remaining shaker is pale green having wine and pink carnations. This shaker has a 1/2 inch chip on the rim concealed by the metal head. The shakers measure 2 1/4 inches. The holder molded as leaves and twigs, a proper nest for the 'chicks", is impressed with the company name, Quadruple Plate and the number '093" beneath. Height 5 1/2 inches. A like set is pictured on the cover of 'The World of Salt Shakers, Volume III" by Mildred & Ralph Lechner, text on page 118. The set in Lechner's book was the only one known to exist, never seeing another in their 40 years of collecting. Considered an extreme rarity as a set in the holder. Aged patina to the holder, the shakers are beautifully hand decorated.
