Provenance: Sotheby's Sale 5980, The Ismail Merchant Collection, 7 October 2009, London, South Kensington. Measures: 98.5H x 95W in. Pichvai's are devotional pictures which portray Lord Krishna. They originated in theareas of Deccan, India and the villages of Aurangabad and Nathdwara in Rajasthan state. The purpose of Pichhwais, other than artistic appeal, is to narrate tales of Krishna to the illiterate.
