157E: TWAIN. Autograph note with rare "ghost-writing" s
(TWAIN, Mark) - CLEMENS, Samuel (1835 - 1910). Autograph note signed with rare "ghost-writing" signature.[N.p: 3 September 1905]. Manuscript note on one sheet (220 x 136 mm). Largely signed "Samuel L. Clemens" vertically and folded to create ghost-signature. Condition: usual folds. unusual and possible unique example of a samuel clemens "ghost-signature." This note was originally enclosed in a longer letter to Clemens' daughter, Clara, as evidenced by his published letters. In the present 5 line note Clemens playfully writes, "The last fad is 'ghost - autographs.' You write your name down the crease, then fold & press the paper while the ink is still wet & will blot. It generally makes something resembling a skeleton."
