Description
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A carefully sculpted object, made of a purple, cream, and coral-colored hard stone, with a distinct anthropomorphic shape. The face features drilled circular eyes, a thin mouth, a wide cranium, and a large, flattened nose. An elongated body terminates in a thin, chiseled slit which could have been used for the purpose of sharpening a tool or weapon or to eliminate fraying pieces from unwoven textile strands. The back of the figure also has a deep groove down it, while the upper leg area has been extensively drilled. Size: 1.5" L x 0.625" W x 2.6" H (3.8 cm x 1.6 cm x 6.6 cm).
