Description
Ovoid brass Mandarin hat finial that was a part of Chinese history. Part of the government attire, it showed the wearers status. During the early part of the 20th century, these hat finials were re-purposed for tourist souvenirs.
Brass swiveling hat finial with a brass ovoid bead. The base and top are made from granulated metal beads and fit the ovoid bead well. The hat finial has been attached to a colorfully enameled metal bell shape. A Peking glass green bead is the clapper.
There is the word CHINA etched on the bell interior.
MEASUREMENTS 4 ¾†(12.1 cm) tall x 2 ½†(6.4 cm) diameter. Weight 3.3 oz (95 g)
CONDITION
There is damage to the bell enameling. The Mandarin hat finial is in good shape but the metal has oxidized with time and is darker with some spotting.
A great piece of history. A piece of attire that was connected to the Imperial Court of China.
