Description
Rare Staffordshire ceramic child’s tea cup and saucer with an endearing pair of robin red breasts under a holly tree.
A diminutive low fired molded ceramic teacup and saucer with an off white glaze and a polychrome transfer of two robins under a holly bush with flowers in the foreground. There is a repeating border on the rim. The transfer is detailed and quite charming. The teacup has had a handle added in the firing. The saucer has three tiny sager dots on the base. The teacup has a partial non glazed foot. There is no decoration on the back of the saucer or teacup base. The only mark is on the base of the saucer. It is the number 725 or 125 in green. It is hand painted.
MEASUREMENTS Cup measures 2†(5.1 cm) tall x 2 7/16†(6.2 cm) diameter x 2 15/16†(7.5 cm) wide. Saucer measures 4 ½†(11.4 cm) diameter x 7/8†(2.2 cm) tall. The set weighs 5.5 oz (155 g)
CONDITION There are no cracks, chips, or breaks. There are kiln and manufacture flaws such as smudges, glaze drips, transfer losses and unevenness. These only add to the human factor and charm of this old set.
A colorful and rare pair to add to your childhood dish collection or Aesthetic Movement décor. I love the pair of colorful robin red breasts.
