A beautiful snuff dish carved of a warm and pleasing olive green jade with a concave base and a flat foot. When held to the light this small snuff dish comes alive with cloudy patterns. A small object to be admired and added to a snuff bottle collection. I love the feel of the jade in my hand.
The shallow concave well of the dish shows the lathe rings of its manufacture. The jade has a shiny polish which feels so soft and smooth. When back lite, the jade is translucent.
While snuff bottles are better known today, snuff dishes were once commonly used to crush the clumps of snuff which occasionally formed.
MEASUREMENTS 1 ½†(4.5 cm) diameter. Weighs .9oz (25 g)
CONDITION There are no cracks, breaks, or chips. The jade has wear on the base which shows age from usage.
A small jade to compliment a snuff bottle collection. I love the deep, warm color and feel of the smooth stone.
