LEFLER, Heinrich (1863-1919). Beim Osterhasen. An Easter design in watercolor, ink and pencil on paper, ca 1910. (215 x 290 mm). This picture of a little girl in the snow with the Easter Bunny was likely done for a German song book. Lefler was a prominent Austrian Jugendstil artist who often worked with his sister's brother-in-law Joseph Urban. He studied in Vienna at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste and in Munich at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste where he later taught. In 1891 he joined the Künstlerhaus in Vienna and founded the Hagenbund with Urban in 1900. He was a prolific designer of books, posters, calendars, menus, theater programmes, furniture, screens, clocks, jewelry boxes, and other decorative arts. He also designed stage sets for Gustave Mahler at the Wiener Hofoper as well as the 60th jubilee of Emperor Francis Joseph I in 1908.
