Tibet, c. 18th c.
This beautifully cast figure features the lord of death, Yama, striding in alidhasana on the back of a buffalo over a prostrate figure on a lotus base, Yama is adorned with beaded swags trampling a bull who in turn is crushing a woman with blissful expression upon his face. Yama’s right arm is raised holding the skull club, his left displaying vitarkamudra. He is draped with festoons, ribbons, and a garland of severed heads. His wrathful bull\'s face boasts bared fangs and bulging eyes surmounted by tufts of flaming hair. His powerful torso is coiled with a snake and festoons interlinked through central chakras.
