The Bamburg Horseman, (German: Der Bamberger Reiter), is a life-size, stone, equestrian statue, (made by an anonymous medieval sculptor), located in Bamberg Cathedral, Germany. In view of the statue being crowned, unarmed and located in a Cathedral, it is understood to represent a king - possibly a king who was also a saint. Many high-ranking figures during the Third Reich period believed Der Bamberg Reiter represented the German medieval king, Frederick II. The statue is unique in that it is believed to be the first known, life-size sculpture of a horseman since antiquity. During the 1930s, in line with the revival for all things relating to German history, Rosenthal made a porcelain figure of The Bamberg Horseman. The figure was made in relatively small numbers (precise figures are unknown).
