The rugs from Nain, a desert city in central Iran are among the finest hand-knotted carpets produced in modern Iran.It takes many years of apprenticeship for a weaver to achieve the designation of master weaver and only master wears can weave Nain rugs. It would take many months or even several years for a master weaver to complete a single Nain rug, depending on the fineness of knots and size.The knots in Nain rug contain some 250-500 knots or more in square inch. These rugs are woven with the Persian symmetrical knot and are constructed of wool and silk mixture pile woven on cotton foundation.Nain is neighboring Isfahan, and for this very reason the designs follow the famous Isfahan, influenced by Shah Abbas design. They usually include skillfully drawn flowers, foliages and vines.The color palette used in Nain rugs is kept simple and limited to variations of blue, beige and shades of brown. Nain rugs mostly come in blue, beige and rarely in gorgeous red. It’s not machine made, nor hand-tufted, it is authentic hand knotted in Iran.
