(1748 - 1825) French painter and the founder of the French Neoclassical school, an associate of Robespierre and Napoleon's court painter, his great works include "The Death of Marat" and the enormous "Coronatation of Napoleon". Superb content A.D.S. "David", 1p. legal folio, Paris, Aug. 17, 1811, being the artist's statement to Emperor Napoleon for artistic works he has provided: "For the service of His Majesty at the Library of the Emperor". The artist has supplied four engravings to decorate Napoleon's library, and here submits his account for 168 francs signed at conclusion. Also verified at the conclusion by ANTOINE-ALEXANDRE BERTHIER (1765-1825), who served at the emperor's librarian. Folds, else fine. With a hand-colored engraving of the artist, ca. 1860.
