(1722-1809) Styled Viscount Deerhurst, British Tory politician, represented the county of Worcestershire in the House of Commons, and later entered the House of Lords. Manuscript D.S. "Coventry", 1p. folio, Worcester, Dec. 21, 1795, to Ambrose Saint John, in part: "I ... Do Nominate, Constitute and Appoint, You the said Ambrose Saint John (Your Qualification having been Transmitted to me by the Clerk of the Peace) to be Major of the Regiment of Militia for the County of Worcester, raised or to be raised by Virtue of the said act of Parliament, and to be under my Command for the Service of his Majesty..." Coventry signs at the conclusion of the document, and adds a plain red wax seal with a green ribbon. Signature somewhat light, else very good.
