(1839-1911) Navy rear admiral, remembered as the hero of the Battle of Santiago de Cuba during the Spanish-American War. War-date A.L.S., 1p., 8vo., "At Sea", Jul. 1, 1898, to "Gentlemen." Schley writes from the steamer Seneca, thanking his correspondents for sending a previous letter with clippings enclosed, and for their congratulations on his July 3rd victory at the Battle of Santiago de Cuba. Includes original transmittal envelope. Folds, else very good.
