PHOTO ALBUMS: WOMEN IN THE THIRD REICH
Excellent group of three photo albums, each depicting a different aspect of women's participation in the Third Reich, includes: photo album, 11 1/2" x 8", presumably belonging to a member of the "Bund Deutscher Madel"("League of German Girls"), containing 110 b/w snapshots depicting various BDM marches, holiday celebrations, and outings, including boating excursions and hiking trips. The earlier photos in the album are dated 1934. Various BDM uniforms are well depicted. Several photos appear to be missing, and several others are loose from their mounts, else very good. WITH: photo album, 10" x 7", containing 90 images, belonging to a female member of the Reichsarbeitsdienst (Reich Labor Service), the official state labor service. This album opens with side-by-side photos of the unnamed woman in her RAD overcoat, circa 1942, juxtaposed with a view of her later in life, dated 1985. The majority of the images appear to depict this woman and her friends' time at an RAD training facility. Many of the images are professional portraits depicting them in uniform, while the balance are personal snapshots. No missing images, very good. WITH: photo album, 9 1/4" x 11 1/4", containing 62 vintage copies of 2 3/4" x 4"snapshots, all depicting a group of Luftwaffe "Flakhelferin" ("flak helpers"), women who assisted Luftwaffe anti-aircraft crews by manning spotlights and range-finding gear, handling ammunition, and other duties. These images show the women manning their equipment, demonstrating their helmets and uniforms with Luftwaffe insignia, and their living quarters and male colleagues. Very good. Three pieces.
