Description
1812 MILITIA MUSKET BY J. CROSBY
Muzzle-loading flintlock musket, 40 1/2" barrel, 55" overall, approx. .75 caliber, with three brass barrel bands, a brass buttplate, and a brass trigger guard, which is twice marked by the maker, "J. Crosby", a lock maker at the Springfield Armory . The lock plate is marked "Bartlett", a lock maker under contract with Springfield, with the date "1812" and the characters "US", with a well-worn American eagle. A flint is present and the lock, which cocks and fires without issue. The stock is cherry. It is likely that Crosby made this musket for his own personal use. The steel ramrod is present. A 2" long sliver of wood is missing from the forestock, and a filled 3/4" crack is present in the buttplate, else very good.
