3 1/2" Porphyry Popeye Birdstone. Highly developed example found in Williams Co, OH near Montpelier. Found ~1908. The left eye is restored on this sleek bodied Bird with transverse bridges and a strong undercut jaw. One of the finest ever made. Ex-Steve Elwood, Oliver Skrivanie, Clem Caldwell, Julian Gentry, Dr. T. Hugh Young, Dr. Rollin Bunch & Joseph Ringeisen. Pictured in the Birdstone Book (p581-C), 1955 #4 Ohio Archaeologist (p134), twice in Prehistoric American (1995 #2, p32 and 2009 #1, p25), Legends I (pp244-245) and Legends II (p535).
