1st-2nd century AD. A lead side-panel from a casket, depicting a pediment with ropework borders and vegetation supported by columns; in the arcades between the columns, a bird, a draped standing figure of Dis (Pluto) and a crouching lion. 11.9 kg, 92cm (36"). Property of an Essex gentleman; previously in a Hampshire collection; acquired on the UK art market before 2000.
