Villard Paddio (1894-1947), "Louis Armstrong and His Band," 1931, sepia photograph pen inscribed "My Best Wishes to Bert Hall, Jr. from Louis Armstrong, 12/25/31," the lower right corner marked "Paddio, New Orleans," presented in a gilt frame with a modern playbill for the movie "Satchmo the Great," verso with a COA for the photograph. H.- 6 7/8 in., W.- 8 3/4 in. Note: Paddio was a prominent African-American photographer, a student of A. P. Bedou, who documented many of the city's African-Americans, including Louis Armstrong.
