Description
French Gilt Bronze Mantle Clock, early 19th c., by Henry Marc, Paris, with a surmount of Neptune over an enamel dial clock, time and strike, flanked by relief shells, over an applied figure of a merman riding a dragon, atop an open "grotto" flanked by relief waves and shells, now enclosing and associated suspended bronze cupid with floral garlands, H.- 18 in., W.- 14 in., D.- 5 1/2 in. Provenance: The Estate of Sidney J. Mazarat III, New Orleans, Louisiana.
Condition
Condition consistent with age and use. Dark discoloration or wear throughout gilt. Scattered pin size faint brown spots on face of clock. Hairline crack from center to numeral IIII. Wires suspending putto in center. Approximate ½ inch loss to leaves to lower right of putto. Spots of wax residue on lower left corner. Loss to ¼ inch area around screw in back right side. Wear along back edge. Scratches along back. A nice piece.
