Description
Two Porcelain Ewers, 20th c., consisting of a Meissen Style Porcelain Figural Ewer, with a crossed swords mark, the spout and handle with a satyr and cherub astride a hippocamp, on a continuous relief of putti cavorting with dolphins raised on mermaid base, H.- 15 in., W.- 6 1/4 in., depth 5 in., together with a Capodimonte example with reliefs of putti frolicking with animals. (2 Pcs.) Provenance: The Estate of Sidney J. Mazarat III, New Orleans, Louisiana.
Condition
Condition consistent with age and use. Dust accretion throughout. Capodimonte- Light wear on the handle. Possible repair where base attaches to body of pitcher. Inconsistency to gilt at seam. Flea-size chips to horns of winged satyr near mouth of pitcher. Meissen- Two hairline cracks through satyr's proper left foot. A flea-size chip to the corner of the base. Two lovely pieces.
