Description
South America, Bolivia, ca. 19th century CE. A charming silver chalice topped by two inquisitive alpacas (or other camelids) standing on flourishes on either side of a deep cup. Each camelid is depicted carrying a heavy load. The cup has repousse floral motifs around its body and stands on the head of a figure in Spanish colonial dress; the figure in turn stands atop a round, domed base with a thin edge. Dangling from the flourishes at the top are thin chains with a single Bolivian coin at the end of each one. Size: 4.8" W x 7.5" H (12.2 cm x 19 cm) (232.7 g)
