Description
Europe, Portugal, ca. 19th century CE. A hand-carved wood panel from a door with two long arms projecting from a central arch. Underneath the arch stands a representation of the Virgin and Child, both wearing crowns, with their arms stretched out to the sides. Kneeling on either side is a worshipper - a man on the right and a woman on the left. The arch is carved to look like clouds and along the long sides of the panel there are relief carvings that look like doves with their wings spread, symbolizing the Holy Spirit. The piece is painted green, yellow, and blue, with some hints of red around Mary's robes. Size: 1.55" L x 19.75" W x 6.7" H (3.9 cm x 50.2 cm x 17 cm)
