Description
Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Monte Alban, ca 400 BCE to 200 CE. Blackware pottery cylinder vase decorated with a large carved skull face having large round eyes and a toothy mouth. Once colored with added pigment, small amounts still remaining. Early and rare example! Size: 5.625" W x 6.25" H (14.3 cm x 15.9 cm)
Provenance: private William B. Jaffe & Evelyn Annenberg Jaffe Hall collection, acquired from Arte Primitivo, NYC., 1971. To current owner by descent.
