Rome, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd to 4th century CE. A mold-pressed earthenware roundel depicting the frontal visage of Minerva, goddess of wisdom, war, commerce, and the arts, in relief with large almond-shaped eyes, a protruding nose, and full heart-shaped lips - all framed by a wavy coiffure. Quite a captivating countenance, perforated at top for attachment. Size: 3.875" L x 3.75" W (9.8 cm x 9.5 cm)
