Description
A matched pair of late Georgian Irish silver sauce ladles, in Fiddle pattern with long rat-tail to bowl reverse and engraved crest to terminal, hallmarked Laurence Nowlan, Dublin 1818 and 1821, also with retailer's mark 'Stewart'. Together with an early twentieth century cased set of twelve silver teaspoons and pair of sugar tongs, hallmarked Cooper Brothers & Sons Ltd., Sheffield 1917, and a Victorian silver child's spoon, hallmarked George Unite, Birmingham 1850, with a matching fork, unhallmarked. Weight excluding fork 9.99 ozt (310.7 grams).
Condition
All the pieces display expected general tarnishing, surface wear, marks and scratches commensurate with age and use. Numerous pitting marks to the bowls of the two ladles and a couple of minor surface bumps and dints. The teaspoons and sugar tongs appear in fairly good overall condition. The bowl of the Victorian spoon appears quite thin especially towards the tip and there are also some surface bumps. The fork tines are a little uneven in length but are still fairly sharp. This section could be a replacement for the original as it is not hallmarked The hallmarks on the other pieces are mostly clear and legible.
