Description
Pre-Columbian, Veracruz, Mexico, ca. 450 to 650 CE. This is a pottery "Coast Watcher" figure seated on a frame that resembes a throne. The figure has painted eyes, an incredible headdress, large ear plugs, and necklace and arm bands. The head is exaggerated but there are clear details throughout, with finely molded hands. Although the term "coast watcher" is a modern one, archaeologists believe that these figures probably represent individuals, with their personalized ear plugs, necklaces, etc. Size: 7.5" L x 4.5" H (19 cm x 11.4 cm).
