Description
Central Asia, modern day Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan, Bactria (Bactria Margiana / BMAC), ca. 3rd to 2nd millennium BCE. A wonderful flattened cuboid whistle with four musical holes drilled down into one narrow side and two holes for suspension drilled laterally through the wide sides. On both wide surfaces of the cuboid are tiny, shallow, incised concentric circles forming a border and an "X" pattern. Concentric circles of this style are thought to be wards against the evil eye. This unique piece would have been a personal item, owned by someone and probably worn around the neck or hung from a belt, brought out to play simple tunes. Size: 0.4" L x 2.6" W x 2.55" H (1 cm x 6.6 cm x 6.5 cm)
