An original Geoffrey Dickinson (1933-1988) artwork for a football-themed satirical cartoon, possibly for Punch magazine, circa 1970s, signed in pencil and titled ''WELL SIR, SINCE MANCHESTER UNITED WERE AT HOME TODAY THAT ONLY LEAVES ...'', the image & caption implying that vandalism inflicted upon a Royal Train carriage cannot be blamed on football hooligans, and the culprits may be closer to home!, pen & ink with bodycolour on board, overall 23 by 44cm., unframed Geoffrey Samuel Dickinson was born in Liverpool and attended Southport School of Art between 1950 and 1953 and at the Royal Academy School between 1953 and 1957. He is particularly remembered for his iconic illustration titled ''London, The Swinging City'' that appeared on the front cover of Time magazine, published 15th April 1966. The payment for this commission allowed Dickinson to buy his home. The artist's mainstay was contributing cartoons to Punch magazine. Provenance: Acquired from the Chris Beetles Gallery by the present consignor. Gallery Label pasted to the reverse.
