Description

This sumptuously elegant clock in the shape of a Medici vase cites the famous SÃ¨vres porcelain model created by French sculptor Louis-Simon Boizet (1743-1809) and bronzier Pierre-Philippe Thomire (1751-1843), commissioned by Comte d'Angivillier of the Royal Garde-Meuble, and delivered to Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette at Versailles in 1783. Pierre-Philippe Thomire was the most important bronze sculptor of the First French Empire. He was appointed ciseleur de l'Empereur Napoleon, he collaborated with the SÃ¨vres (watch cases made of bronze and porcelain), produced high-quality clocks, candelabras, bas relief figures and ornaments. He collaborated with J.-B.-C. Odiot the cradle for the King of Rome (Vienna, Kunsthistorisches Museum).The clock decorations are Neo-Classical friezes containing ovals, palm fronds, acanthus leaves and garlands; from the handles two women in ancient draped garments. The lid of the clock is finely perforated, with a pinecone on the top. The figure of Mercury is on the green marble base, which rests on four gilt feet A similar clock was consigned to the ChÃ teau de Fontainebleau. The movement was made by the Parisian clockmaker Sirost, who is recorded as working from rue Bertin-PoirÃ© from at least 1806-10 and from rue des Fontaines in 1840. La qualitÃ esecutoria di questo orologio Ã¨ straordinariamente curata nei minimi dettagli, sono presenti fregi in stile neoclassico, che comprendono ovali, foglie di palma, foglie di acanto e ghirlande, sulle anse si elevano due donne vestite all'antico con abiti drappeggiati. Il coperchio dell'orologio Ã¨ finemente traforato, sulla sommitÃ dello stesso Ã¨ presente una pigna. Sulla base del vaso Ã¨ presente la figura di Mercurio.
Il quadrante dell'orologio riporta il nome dellâ€™orologiaio, Sirost a Paris.
Il movimento Ã¨ stata realizzato dall'orologiaio parigino Sirost, che aveva la sua attivitÃ a rue Bertin-PoirÃ© tra il 1806-1810 e successivamente in rue des Fontaines nel 1840.
Movimento: doppio bariletto con sospensione di seta e campana.
Un orologio identico a questo esemplare, si trova presso il castello di Fontainebleau, fu acquistato il 23 agosto 1806.
Pierre-Philippe Thomire Ã¨ stato il piÃ¹ importante bronzista del Primo Impero francese. Venne nominato ciseleur de l'empereur da Napoleone, collaborÃ² con la manifattura di SÃ¨vres (casse di orologio in bronzo e porcellana), produsse orologi di grande qualitÃ , candelabri, figure a bassorilievo e ornamenti.
