AFTER REMBRANDT ETCHING BY A DURAND – CHRIST HEALING: Heliogravure with etching after Rembrandt van Rijn (1606-1669, Netherlands) by Amand Durand (1831-1905), having several known titles, this image is referred to as, “Hundred Guilder Print, Christ healing the sick, Christ with the Sick around Him, Receiving Little Children, or Christ Preaching.” Verso with Amand Durand stamp 1865 – 1867 and that of “G. Rapilly Paris - Helio A.D. 9. Quai Malaquais," upper left graphite reads, In Wiggins Collection Given to Boston Library June 1943?”, Paper size 12”h x 16.75”w.

Amand Durand was hired by the Louvre Museum to conserve Rembrandt’s images by faithfully reproducing his engraving plates in copper. This was done by combining the heliogravure process with hand etching to reinforce detail which was not deemed sufficient via the heliogravure alone. Prints were then carefully pulled by hand from these reproduced plates. The Durand editions are considered the most faithful to the originals to have ever been produced.
