Description
A hand molded and hand finished green glass pitcher commemorating the participation of Mary Ludwig Hays in the Battle of Monmouth during the Revolutionary War June 28, 1778. "Molly Pitcher" as she became known is said to have brought water to the soldiers in a pitcher and then to have manned a cannon during the battle. The glass pitcher has a 4-1/2 inch body diameter and a 4 inch diameter flared mouth and stands 6 inches tall. The two faces on either side of the handle have embossed scenes of Molly Pitcher, one on horseback in battle and one loading a cannon on the line. The cannon panel reads "Molly Pitcher" above and "June 28 1778 to June 28 1978" below. The opposite reads "Battle of Monmouth" below the scene. No maker's marks are evident. The pitcher is in good to very good condition and is possibly unique.
