After the final race of the 1993 Winston Cup season, series champion Dale Earnhardt and race winner Rusty Wallace drove a side-by-side Polish Victory Lap carrying flags for fallen drivers Alan Kulwicki and Davey Allison, who had both passed away during that year's race season. Earlier in the season at Pocono, the first race after Davey's death, Earnhardt and Wallace battled for the win, with Earnhardt coming out on top. Before taking a Victory Lap, Earnhardt stopped his car at the Start/Finish Line and knelt beside his car, lifting up prayers for the Allison family. He then got back in his car and did Kulwicki's famous "Polish Victory Lap" while holding a large black #28 Davey Allison Flag out the window. Wallace finished .72 of a second behind, but the only thing he regretted was that he wasn't the driver taking the victory lap in honor of Kulwicki and the Allison family. When Wallace followed Earnhardt across the finish line, he reached down beside his seat and pulled out a flag like the one Earnhardt displayed minutes later and held it out his window as he drove back to the pits. Earnhardt dropped back beside Wallace and tried to motion for him to stop with him at the finish line, but Wallace couldn't decipher the message. It was later this poignant moment at Atlanta Motor Speedway when Rusty and Dale were able to finally take that lap together in the last moments of the 1993 NASCAR Winston Cup season to honor the fallen drivers.
