Description
Gustave Baumann (German/American, 1881 - 1971). "September". Original color woodcut. 1912. Stamp signed with the initials, lower left; signed in the block, lower right. The red initial stamp could well indicate a proof impression. Cream wove paper. Wide margins. Fine impression with heavy ink application. Very good condition. Literature/catalogue raisonne: See: Acton, Krause, and Yurtseven's 'Gustave Baumann - Nearer to Art,' pg. 20; and David Acton's 'Hand of a Craftsman - The Woodcut Technique of Gustave Bauman,' pgs. 77 & 79 (illustrated). Provenance: Through the artist Will Vawter. Included in the suite of 12 woodcuts (the twelve different months) published in "All the Year Round" as "September." We could not find a stamp signed impression of this print at auction. Overall size: 10 5/16 x 8 1/4 in. (262 x 210 mm). Image size: 7 5/8 x 6 1/4 in. (194 x 159 mm).
