Description
Pre-Columbian, Mayan Territories, ca. 600 to 900 CE. A torq-shaped eccentric flint knapped from a gorgeous pale lavender chert. From a wide, flat center, the curved edges of the piece taper to sharp points. Chert flints are made using percussion, striking them with other stones. Flints carved not as weapons, but as interesting designs, had sacrificial and ceremonial use for the Maya, and are often found as offerings in caches inside of stone monuments and other architectural features. Size: 3.05" W (7.7 cm)
