Item Details
Description
Ancient Rome, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. An impressed silver plaque depicting the visage of a deity with wide-open eyes that are lashed and crowned by arched brows, an aquiline nose, and pursed lips. The edges of the plaque are adorned with a stylized rope motif. Votives made of thin sheets of silver, often cut or impressed into the shapes of leaves or feathers (although this one appears to have been square/rectangular), have been found in many different areas of the Roman Empire. Romans pinned them to the walls in temples or shrines dedicated to the deities depicted upon them. Comes with custom stand. Size: 2.5" L x 2.875" W (6.4 cm x 7.3 cm); 3.875" H (9.8 cm) on stand
