Description
Ancient Rome, ca. 1st century BCE to 1st century CE. A white marble mortar, finely carved in a shallow form on a flat base with four bifurcated leaflike handles/lugs equidistantly spaced around the perimeter just beneath the rim. An exquisite piece most likely used for the preparation of medicine by the Romans, and just think, this form has been preserved for some 2000 years! Size: 6.5" W x 1.25" H (16.5 cm x 3.2 cm)
