Description
Greece / Cyprus, Archaic Period, ca. 7th century BCE. A charming earthy red pottery representation of a horse and rider, obviously made from two pieces of clay fired together. The horse has a stylized, triangular body, with flattened front and back legs and a long head of simple form. The rider has a large hat, with carefully molded beard and hair. Many figures similar to this one have been found at the sanctuary of Apollo Hylates and have been interpreted as votive figures of warriors. Size: 3.2" L x 2" W x 6.95" H (8.1 cm x 5.1 cm x 17.7 cm)
