Description
Details: This lot consists of a custom engraved copper civil war pre-dog tag identification or name disc. The obverse of the token shows US eagle, shield, olive branch and arrows in a sky with 13 stars and reads "UNION IN THE WAR OF 1861, 2 & 3" and the reverse reads "JOHN J. PROCTER [sic] CO C 23RD MASS". Research by the collector shows that Proctor was a drummer and was wounded at the Battle of Whitehall in 1862 and discharged. There is a small hole drilled for hanging and the diameter measures 29mm.

Condition / Notes: This dog tag token is in excellent condition and shows signs of normal period wear that may include patina, abrasions, rust and soiling.
